8-Bit Mega Pack for Vital

8-Bit Mega Pack is 100+ authentic-sounding synth presets emulating the classic sound of the NES sound-chip, all inside the free Vital synthesizer (any version). These presets capture the 8-bit sound of the 2A03 sound chip through wavetables based on NES samples and emulations, by limiting to the types of effects possible on the 2A03, and by limiting most modulations to 16 possible values (hex). There are also some options in preset macros for creating chiptune sounds inspired by the hardware, but not strictly limited to the 2A03's capabilities. If a preset doesn't "follow the rules" of the original chip by default, it's marked (Cheat). There are only 10 of those presets, and several of them have authentic alternatives marked (Authentic). Presets where changing a macro would result in the preset becoming inauthentic have warnings in the description. Watch out for the chiptune police!

If you're passionate about authenticity, check out the templates I included! They'll help you create authentic NES-style sounds by limiting you to the 16 possible values for amplitude and frequency and limits you to modulations of 60 Hz or more. This includes:

- Authentic noise template that quantizes the noise oscillator to the exact 16 pitches from the NES
- Prebaked vibrato controlled by mod wheel (quantized to never modulate faster than 60 Hz)
- Quantized pitch modulations from the pitch wheel
- Quantized volume macro or velocity that adjusts the number of possible amplitude modulations according to its value (e.g. a pluck starting at half volume can decay to no more than 8 different amplitudes)

8_Bit_Mega_Pack Installation Instructions:

Open Vital and click the hamburger menu at the top, to the left of the volume control. Click "import bank" and choose the 8_Bit_Mega_Pack.vitalbank file.

To browse presets, click the hamburger menu. Click "browse presets". Then in the bottom left, you will see all your banks. Scroll down to "8_Bit_Mega_Pack" and click it. Now from the right, you can browse through the presets.
